Digging for Treasure

Harvesting potatoes is like digging for treasure.  You follow the stem of the plant down to the roots, dig into the soil, feel a lump, and carefully brush away the soil to reveal a white gem. You are not quite sure how large it is until you dig all around, get a firm grasp and lift the potato out of the soil. And then you sift through the soil with your fingers to find others.

Today we harvest 8 lbs. of potatoes for Manna. Even though their scale is meant for large drive on trucks, our weekly contribution of fresh food is greatly appreciated.

The “name that squash” contest is still on. We have a mystery variety–check it out and tell us what you think it is.

Join us in the garden–all are welcome, no gardening experience needed!

Kol Hakavod to Cheryl, Fred, Marcie and all the gardeners and harvesters. This contribution to Manna, to our community and to the earth is truly mitzvah work!
